Guangzhou, also known as Canton, capital of Guangdong Province, is in the southern part of China with eleven regions (aka Districts).
During the Ming Dynasty, this place was already an important port for China’s foreign trade and cultural exchanges. During the Qing Dynasty, it was China’s only foreign trade window for more than 100 years.
Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao are geographically close to each other, building strong ties among the three regions. The co-operation and exchanges across the regions have been strengthened to complement each other since sovereignty over Hong Kong and Macao to mainland China.
As of 2020, Guangzhou City has permanent residents of 15,305,900. The population distribution of each district is as follows.
Guangzhou is located in the Pearl River’s lower reaches in southern China, on the brink of the South China Sea.
Boluo and Longmen counties are in the east of the city. Sanshui, and Shunde to the west. In the north, there are Qingyuan City and Fogang County, and Xinfeng County. Dongguan City and Zhongshan City are in the south, facing Hong Kong and Macau across the sea. Guangzhou is one of the Maritime Silk Road’s starting points and is the only big city in the world that has been prosperous for more than 2000 years.
In 2019, Guangzhou achieved a regional GDP of 2362.8 billion yuan. At present, Guangzhou has formed the production and supply of automobiles, petrochemicals, electronics, electricity and heat, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, wholesale and retail, finance, real estate, leasing, and business services.
There are ten 100 billion-level industrial clusters in transportation. There are more than 8,700 national high-tech enterprises. Guangzhou was rated as the world’s first-tier city by the global authority GAWC.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport was built in the 1930s. and it is located in Huadu District. It is the main airport of Guangzhou, Guangdong’s capital, and is China’s three major international aviation hub airports. It has become China’s first gateway hub to Southeast Asia and Oceania. There are 149 international routes opened for more than 200 countries and regions in five continents: Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and Oceania.
In 2019, the airport passenger throughput reached 73.38 million, and the airport’s cargo and mail throughput were 2.54 million tons, an increase of 5.2% and 2.28% respectively.
Guangzhou Airport Comprehensive Free Trade Zone is the largest comprehensive free trade zone in China.

Guangzhou is the largest comprehensive main hub port in South China. In 2019, Guangzhou Port completed a cargo throughput of 624.87 million tons, of which foreign trade cargo throughput was 14.401 million tons, and the port container throughput was 23.23 million international standard containers.
Guangzhou Port has opened 87 international routes and 105 domestic trade routes. The world’s top 21 shipping giants such as Maersk, CMA CGM, and the Mediterranean have established business in Guangzhou Port and trade with 500 ports in more than 170 countries and regions in the world contacts.

According to Guangzhou’s rail transit network planning, Guangzhou’s long-term planning includes 23 rail transit lines with a total of 1,025km. The network has a “ring + radiation” main structure. In the latest revision of Guangzhou rail transit network planning, Guangzhou Metro Group has taken the initiative to connect Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Qingyuan, and other cities, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

In 2019, Guangzhou received 67.73 million overnight tourists. Guangzhou’s tourism resources are really rich.
